Notice: Before you go into the e-filing system, you need to fill out your court documents and save them to your computer for upload. Statewide forms can be found at https://www.illinoiscourts.gov/documents-and-forms/approved-forms/. Other forms may be available from your local circuit clerk's office or website.

Enhancements to the document flattening process have resulted in increased submission failures for some PDF Producers, including Corel for Word Perfect. If you receive notice that your filing was submission failed, please use the help link below to assist in refiling.

eFileIL Changes For Cook County:
For All Civil Locations - If you are scheduling a motion on any Civil case you will now be required to select a Motion Type in the Filings Section of your eFiling envelope if you would like to schedule a court date for the motion you are filing. Failure to pick the correct Motion Type will result in the inability to schedule a court date. Please select the one that fits the case type or motion type you are filing. Select Motion Hearing-Type Not Listed if none of the other options fits your filing. PLEASE NOTE: that this also applies to scheduling a date for all post judgment matters.

PLEASE NOTE: If a document is considered to be filed untimely due to any court-approved electronic filing system technical failure during this transition, the filing party may seek appropriate relief from the court, UPON GOOD CAUSE SHOWN. Illinois Supreme Court Rule 9(d)(1).

Law Division District 1 [Calendars 1, 3, and 5] and Law Districts 2 thru 6 [Calendars G, K, L, O, and P] will also allow motion scheduling for eFiling.


For Chancery Division, the motion type will no longer be selected in the Case Cross Reference section. It will now be selected in the Filings section. Select your motion related filing code and then select your motion type in the dropdown box below the filing code. There will be more motion codes than before, please select the one that fits the case type or motion type you are filing. Select Motion Hearing-Type Not Listed if none of the other options fits your filing.

Cook County Circuit Court Only:

• Probate Only You will no longer have to file a subsequent filing to schedule your Opening Case Management Hearing Date. The system will now generate your Opening Case Management date when your new case is accepted. The court date and time will print on the face of your eFiled documents.

Are you filing without a lawyer?

• For forms to file, legal information, where to find free or low-cost legal advice, and more, click here.
• If you don't have a lawyer, you don't have to e-file if: (1) you are in prison or jail, (2) you are filing a will, (3) you are filing into a juvenile court case, (4) you have a disability that prevents you from e-filing, or (5) for good cause. The first 4 exemptions are automatic, and you do not need to submit any paperwork. The 5th exemption requires you to fill out and file a Certification for Exemption from E-filing and check off one of the following reasons to be exempt from e-filing:
• I do not have internet or a computer in my home. My only access is through a public terminal at a courthouse, library, or other location. This poses a financial or other hardship.
• I have trouble reading, writing, or speaking in English.
• I am filing in a sensitive case, such as a petition for an order of protection or a civil no contact/stalking order.
• I tried to e-file my documents, but I could not complete the process because the equipment or assistance I need is not available.
